V-TUF D10 Diesel — Troubleshooting

Fault-finding for the VTUFD10-15200 diesel pressure washer, taken from the operator manual. Work through the quick checks first, then find your symptom below.

Safety first. Before any check: stop the engine, close the fuel tap and squeeze the trigger (pointing in a safe direction) to release the system pressure. Let hot parts cool. Repairs to the pump, unloader or engine should be carried out by a V-TUF approved technician.

Quick checks before you call

Water supply

  • Supply between 1 bar and 8 bar
  • Supply flow greater than 15 L/min
  • Inlet filter P13.6511 clean
  • No air leaks on the suction side

Pump

  • Oil visible in the sight glass
  • No milky (water-contaminated) oil
  • Pump primed – air bled out
  • Never run the pump dry

Engine

  • Clean diesel in the tank
  • Fuel tap on, throttle to maximum
  • Engine oil level correct
  • Battery charged (key start)

Lance & nozzle

  • Correct nozzle fitted, not worn
  • Couplings fully engaged
  • Optiseals in place and undamaged
  • Hose not kinked or damaged

Correct starting procedure

  1. Connect the water supply, then the high-pressure hose and trigger gun.
  2. Move the throttle lever to maximum and make sure the fuel tap is on.
  3. Open the pump priming / decompression valve.
  4. Pull start: pull gently until you feel resistance, move the decompression lever in the direction of the arrow, then pull the cord right out with a strong pull.
  5. Key start: move the decompression lever in the direction of the arrow, turn the key clockwise and release it when the engine starts.
  6. Run until a strong, constant stream of water comes from the priming valve, then close it.
  7. Operate the lance. If the jet is not smooth, turn the pressure & flow knob anticlockwise until the flow is smoothest.

Priming on suction

When drawing from a tank or bowser, disconnect the high-pressure hose and run the engine until a strong stream of water comes from the outlet. Stop the engine, reconnect the hose and restart with the pressure knob set to low.

Stopping

Throttle to minimum, close the fuel tap, then squeeze the trigger to release pressure before disconnecting couplings.

Find your fault

01The pump turns but does not reach the required pressure
Possible cause Solution
The pump is sucking in air Check that the piping is watertight
Worn valves Replace the valves
Worn valve seat Replace the valve seat
Worn or incorrect nozzle Replace the nozzle
Worn gaskets Replace the gaskets
Dirty water filter Clean the water filter
02Irregular fluctuations in pressure
Possible cause Solution
Worn suction and/or delivery valves Replace the valves
Foreign bodies in the valves Check and clean
Air being sucked in Check the piping
Worn gaskets Replace the gaskets
03Pressure surging
Possible cause Solution
Faulty unloader Clean or replace the unloader
04Drop in pressure
Possible cause Solution
Worn suction and/or delivery valves Replace the valves
Foreign bodies in the valves Check and clean
Air being sucked in Check the piping
Worn gaskets Replace the gaskets
05Water in the pump oil
Possible cause Solution
Worn oil seal Replace the oil seal
High air humidity Change the oil twice as often as normally prescribed
Gaskets completely worn Replace the gaskets
06Excessive noise
Possible cause Solution
Air being sucked in Check the seals in the tubing
Dirty water filter Clean the water filter
Insufficient water supply Ensure the water supply exceeds the pump flow rate
Worn or broken suction/delivery valve springs Replace the valves
Foreign bodies in the suction/delivery valves Check and clean the valves
Worn ball bearings Replace the ball bearings
Water temperature too high Lower the water temperature
07Water leaking between pump body and pump head
Possible cause Solution
Worn gaskets Replace the gaskets
Worn pistons Replace the pistons
Worn piston O-ring Replace the piston O-ring
08Oil leaking between pump body and pump head
Possible cause Solution
Worn oil seals Replace the oil seals
09Excessive vibration
Possible cause Solution
Worn or dirty valves Clean or replace the valves
10The engine does not start
Possible cause Solution
No fuel in the tank Fill the tank with clean diesel
Fuel tap closed Turn the fuel tap on
Decompression lever not used Move the decompression lever in the direction of the arrow before pulling the cord or turning the key
Flat battery (key start) Charge or replace the 12 V battery and check the cable connections
Pump oil: V-TUF Pressure Lube PL500 – fill the pump to halfway on the sight glass. Change after the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours. Change it twice as often in high humidity. Milky oil means water has got in – stop and have the seals checked.
