Why documented maintenance matters — the compliance case
PUWER 1998 — Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require employers to ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair. Where maintenance is carried out, a maintenance log must be kept available for inspection. Pressure washers, dust extractors and industrial vacuums used in commercial operations are work equipment under PUWER. Documented, scheduled maintenance is a legal requirement — not an optional extra.
COSHH Regulation 9 — LEV thorough examination
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 require that local exhaust ventilation (LEV) equipment — including M-Class and H-Class dust extractors used to control hazardous dust — is thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months by a competent person. A written record of the examination must be kept for at least 5 years. Operating an LEV system without a current thorough examination record is a COSHH non-compliance. V-TUF service packages will include LEV thorough examination records to the COSHH Regulation 9 standard.

Building Safety Act 2022 — the golden thread
For contractors working in higher-risk buildings under the Building Safety Act 2022, maintenance records for equipment used in the building form part of the golden thread of information that accountable persons must maintain. Service records from V-TUF packages provide the documented evidence trail that HRB contractors need.
